Anytime nearly all anglers choose to purchase baitcaster angling reels, most people ordinarily have got quite a few questions in mind. Many associated with these kinds of outside recreationalists already are really familiar with a lot of involving the additional fishing reels, although have got observed that baitcasting angling reels can be unique. Although, together with a small bit involving valuable, educated data, nearly all will discover out that baitcasting fishing reels are not very much different from many other reels.
The most crucial challenges and also doubts regarding baitcasting fishing reels deal together with the art involving casting. The actual answers to these kinds of questions call for making just a few small changes to the reel. Changing the baitcaster fishing reel is certainly pretty straightforward anytime a person comprehends how it operates. Bird’s nests usually come about due to anglers do not have got the fishing line release fixed in the proper location. The fishing line release knob determines how effortlessly the fishing line comes from the spool. Therefore the more restrictive the line release is, the greater work or weight it’ll call for casting the line. On the other hand, a looser fishing line break placing allows anglers to be able to throw for more distance. So just play around together with this particular minor realignment until you receive your own baitcaster angling reels to the perfect placing.
An additional adjustment on a good baitcaster reel is the drag setting. It is very important to have the appropriate degree of drag when you decide to be able to proceed angling. The level associated with drag depends on how sturdy your own fishing line is and also precisely what species of fish you will end up targeting. The drag controls is usually found directly posterior to the particular baitcasting reel handle as well as will be pretty quickly to be able to manipulate. Converting the drag controls clockwise can tighten up this and also switching it counter clockwise will decrease the drag setting.
The simplest way to recognize if your baitcasting angling reels tend to be set to the particular proper drag is simply too just take it yourself. To do this, just pull at the fishing line until eventually the drag releases the fishing line in correct manner. Notice that will need a minor tiny bit associated with tightening and also loosening until the best placing is reached.

I started out with a shakespeare baitcaster also, it was good to learn the basics, I like to use berkely big game 14lb… you get alot of it and its pretty cheap and tough for what I do(bass n striper),,, I keep it in a black plastic bag to keep the sun off it when I store it,,, FYI there are no parts for your reel so once that one goes its time to get a new one,,, when you upgrade to a better reel make sure there are parts and service available for most of them, most med to upper end brands do… I used mine for a couple years so good luck and happy fishing.
Look up HOW TO CAST A BAITCASTER on YouTube… it will show you how to adjust your reel so you dont get those backlashes and it will show you how to clear them also,,, its pretty cool

The Best Baitcasting reel
Posted by: | CommentsThe Best Baitcasting reel
The dawn of a new era in fishing using a baitcaster is upon us. This reel, made by U.S. Reels company is a baitcasting reel that represents a new era in the mechanics of baitcasting reels. Much like U.S. Reels supercaster spinning reels, the SC1000 and the SC1000 Pro were designed to address an ongoing problem with the existing baitcasting reel designs you find with all other reel manufacturers.
Everyone that uses a traditional baitcasting reel is aware of backlashes. This happens when you cast your line out and you don’t properly “thumb” the spool. What happens is backlash and a lot of line that gets tangled up. The reason this happens, is the traditional level wind spool has to pause when you cast out the line then accelerates to catch up. This acceleration can begin a backlash! So how do you minimize backlash? First you must properly “thumb the spool in order to control or stop the backlash or you create a baitcaster with no eyelet, which adds to the backlash problem.
That’s exactly what the U.S Reels company did. They created a reel with no eyelet, which will allow the line to leave the reel straight and virtually free of friction, regardless of the position of the line. How does it work?
The new baitcaster has an “angled bar levelwind” which is the heart of the system that levels the line on the spool by a rotating angle bar which creates a see-saw effect to guide the line instead of an eyelet. The rolling motion of the bar levels the line, but during the casting phase does not restrict the line like a typical levelwind eyelet.
The levelwind is also adjustable. The height of the new levelwind system regulates casting control. When in the highest position, the angled bar minimizes the need to thumb the reel during a cast and yet the reel casts farther than most reels because the reel is not limited by the eyelet. When in a lower position look out because the reel will literally cast a long, long distance.
The spool on this reel actually rotates the wrong way. It works better this way because it is best mechanically with the angle bar action levelwind. An angle is required for the see- saw action to work. When the line comes from below, it creates this angle. Spool control is easier with the spool turning into the thumb, rather than moving away from the thumb. Backlashes are rare. If they do happen, they come untangled easier. There isn’t much of a learning curve with this reel compared to a traditional levelwind baitcasting reel. If you always wanted to fish with a baitcaster but were afraid of backlashes, well this is the reel for you! Either way this reel makes fishing with a baitcast style reel much easier, and more enjoyable.

How do you use a baitcasting reel?
Posted by: | CommentsQuestion by bearcatfan08: How do you use a baitcasting reel?
I am an avid fisherman, but the only kinds of reels I have ever used are spincasting and spinning. I am hoping to start baitcasting, but I have heard that they are very hard and confusing to use. Can anybody give me some advice on how to use them and maybe even recommend a good brand for the reel? I usually stick with Zebco and Shakespeare reels.

now you’ve pretty much mastered casting, you can learn to use a baitcaster without much problem. It’s great cause you get better line control on the cast (you can feather the end of a cast, for pinpoint accuracy and make the lure land more softly. It’s way more forgiving of line twist and slack than the spinning reel, and the condition of your line on the spool is always visible. If you ever fish a jig vertically, and get a hit on the drop, you can clamp down on the spool with your thumb and set the hook before setting the bail.
one thing I’ve learned is, the difference between a econo-priced blister-pack reel and a “value-priced” reel is significant. And the difference between the reel and the 0 hi-end reel is just as significant. I don’t know about the next step up to the 0+ professional models cause I never made that leap.
you have to choose between low-profile and round, I like the low profile style cause sometimes I like to palm the reel and keep my fingers on the line to help identify a pick-up when the bite is soft.
you have to choose between magnetic and centrifugal cast control, I prefer magnetic because it’s set with a dial, whereas the centrifugal usually requires removal of the face-plate and you have to keep up with the little pins.
you have to choose a gear ratio. the newest 7.1:1 is really blistering speed, and its harder to slow it down than you might think when you’re using a chunk & wind lure like a crank. 6.3:1 is a good all around ratio
I’m partial to Daiwa equipment myself, I have 3…but shimano, shakespeare, abu garcia, pinnacle all make great stuff. The Daiwa strikeforce is a good choice for a first baitcaster.
Depressing the thumb bar releases the spool to where it will spin freely. The thumb bar can be reset by pushing it back up with your thumb or by turning the crank handle.
To start, tie on a 1/2 oz sinker. Adjust the spool tension (large thumb-screw on the handle side of the reel) to where the lure falls slowly when you hit the release. Set the cast control to maximum. Depress the thumb bar, keeping your thumb on the spool to stop it from turning.
Make your cast like you would with a spincaster, applying pressure on the spool near the end of the cast, and stop the spool from spinning when the lure lands.
If the spool keeps spinning after the lure stops, you’ll have a major tangle. The other thing that causes problems is at the start of the cast, if the spool starts spinning faster than the lure is taking line — it’s called backlash and you want to avoid that. Casting a lightweight lure into the wind is a sure way to get major backlash.
